Blood Angels: Captain

For a while, I have wanted to add a bit more character to my Blood Angels army. I've got a lot of units, but not much in the way of flavour. So with that in mind, I kitbashed together Captain Guillaume Zophiel of the Scions Of Sanguinius 2nd Company.

As you can no doubt tell, the foundation of his body is one of the Dark Angel Veterans. If you like robes with your Marines, then that's definitely the kit for you.

I also worked in parts of the Death Company kit (backpack and wing adornments), Honour Guard kit (sword and shield), and Grey Knights kit (head).

I wanted to make sure that this guy was not overburdened with a surplus of detail, but looked interesting enough to be a reasonable centrepiece for a small combat patrol force.

Chaos Space Marines: Hellbrute III

So, for a change of pace (and to indulge in a little housekeeping), I decided to go back to this Tzeentchian Hellbrute which has lain dormant for far too long.

Given that I already have two Nurgley Hellbrutes with the original Dark Vengeance Power Fist/Multi-Melta axis of weapons, I decided to do a bit of slicing and dicing with this one; cutting out the Multi-Melta and replacing it with Lascannon bits that I plundered from some old Devastator kits.  They're not *entirely* straight, but this *is* Chaos Marines that we're talking about...

My first day of reclamation work saw me painting the Hellbrute in the style of a 1980s shellsuit, with nice greens and purples. YUM!

Day Two, however, saw the little blighter taking shape a little more, and looking a bit more civilised.  I applied the gold trim to his armour, and I also started adding a few more colours to the tentacles and tubes.

The reds and oranges that I applied are designed to tie the Hellbrute in with the other elements of my Tzeentch warband - The Watchers of Ophios, whose flame effects use some of these colours.

There's still a long way to go, but at least we're starting to get somewhere now...

(This is the scheme he needs to match to. Fingers crossed!)

Space Marines: Techmarine WiP

Following on from this morning's Apothecary post, and as part of the same project, here is my work-in-progress Techmarine.  I bought the Techmarine/Servitor kit, and there were plenty of bits left over, which I was able to combine with some Tactical Squad bits, some Devastator bits, and a few Command Squad bits.

In total I managed to make sure he has three Mechanicum motifs on him, just to make sure that nobody made the mistake of thinking he *wasn't* a big fan of the old Red Planet Cogs'n'Skullz Club.

Chaos Space Marines: Chaos Sorceror on Palanquin of Nurgle

Here's one of my more grotesque kitbash/homebrew projects: my CHAOS SNAIL (which is a representation of a Palanquin of Nurgle).

The CHAOS SNAIL itself is basically a blob of Green Stuff with Zombie and Ghoul arms thrust in at the end.

The Sorceror himself is forged out of some Chaos Knight legs and regular CSM bits.

Chaos Space Marines: Tzeentch Cultists #4 & #5

Rounding off today's Cultist selection are these two likely lads - two variations on the same model, but hopeful unique enough in their own way.

I probably don't need to give you any hints to help you figure out where this guy's head is from...

A pallid fleshtone changes the character of the head, though, I feel.  I probably could have used it for a Slaaneshi Cultist, too.

I honestly can't remember where I got the freaky hand for this chap from... Some  kind of Tzeentchian character?  The Possessed kit?  Answers on a postcard, please...

This unit (or the first half of it), have been my most pleasing painting project in a long while.

Chaos Space Marines: Tzeentch Cultist #2

Here's another follower of Tzeentch for my Warband - I kept the flame theme running through, as you can see, courtesy of the Empire Flagellants kit.

This headswap was a little trickier to carry out, and it was a bit of a wrench, as the original head was a cool, gas-mask-y one.

I've not gone to town on the conversion, but I'd like to think that the substantially-different head gives it a bit of character of its own.

Chaos Space Marines: Cultist Champion

This latest batch of Dark Vengeance figures sees me being a bit more creative with them.  Because they were going to be devotees of Tzeentch, I wanted them to be a bit warped and twisted, so I raided by Bitz Box.

Obviously the main body of the miniature comes from the Cultist Champion model in the Dark Vengeance set, whilst I used one of the mutated heads from a Maxmini set.

His arm (well, one of them, at least!) comes from a Flamer of Tzeentch.  These darker, pink/orange flames are a recurring theme in this Tzeentchian Warband.

The other hand, meanwhile, came from the other Cultist Champion.  A handswap never did anybody any harm, did it?  Did it...?

Chaos Space Marines: Chaos Sorceror

Hmmm. I'm not sure whether the pictures I took capture the different colours particularly well, but there are a variety of different hues at play here.  The cloak, for instance, is a much darker shade than the armour, which used a similar scheme to my Tzeentchian Marines.

The flaming hand comes from the Possessed kit, which features a load of interesting bits.  I liked the idea of psychic energy being projected from his hands.

The model is, obviously, based around the Dark Vengeance Chaos Lord, with a bit of head-swappery involving one of the regular CSM helmets.

Chaos Space Marines: Tzeentchian Chaos Marines

These guys are the first forays into my Tzeentchian Warband - something that I've wanted to do for quite some time.

I used the heads from the Raptor/Warp Talons kit to make them look a little different from your regular CSM grunts, and I went with a fairly bold colour scheme to tie in with the Tzeentchian influence (I can't help but think of Thousand Sons when I think of Tzeentch in 40K!)

As it stands, I've only done 5 of these guys, but I plan to do a few more to fill out a squad.

I have done a few Cultists and a Chaos Sorceror to complement these guys, but I shall save them for a future post...

Space Wolves: Wulfen Skyclaw

After spending quite a lot of time finding some suitable heads and putting together and painting this guy, you can imagine how delighted I was to see the 'Mark Of The Wulfen' removed from the Space Wolf Codex the other month.  Thanks, G-dubz!

This head is from Maxmini (I think) - the range is okay, but a few of them look a bit too much like Monkeyan from Thundercats, rather than a Wulfen.

I am planning on having a few squads of Skyclaws in my Space Wolf army.  This plan was formulated as soon as I saw that you can have two meltaguns per five Wolves. Nice anti-tank!

You may well howl at the moon, boyo!  You've been de-Codified! Arooooooooo!

Chaos Space Marines: Chaos Lord Of Nurgle

A bit more Nurgle kitbashing today, although this is a bit more orthodox than the Beasts Of Nurgle - this here is my Chaos Lord Biker proxy - basically a Chaos Knight with added 40K CSM bits.

Basically, I wanted a guy to use the cool banner and shields that came in the Knight box set, and I find this guy a lot more impressive than a regular biker.

I didn't add a whole lot of things, to be honest - mostly just a few accessories from the CSM kit....

...and, course, the ubiquitous Nurgling!  No Chaos Lord should be without one, really.

Chaos Daemons: Beasts Of Nurgle

These are some of my favourite-ever homemade monsters - my Beast Of Nurgle proxies!  Suffice to say they cost a lot less than the £15 per model (is that around $25?) that GW ask for their regular finecast ones.

Basically, these guys are just made of a small sausage of clay (about thumb-sized) with some of the spare heads from the Plague Drones kit on top, and I put some clipped-off Chaos Space Marine horns into its body as tentacles.

I covered the clay with some Stirland Mud (the textured paint that GW sells) - this adds a bit of texture, but also covers over the roughness of the clay - and then painted it in a variety of shades of green and brown.

They're not as physically imposing as the GW ones, but I guess I saved myself £45 ($70)!
