Blood Angels: Rhino/Razorback & Squad

Hurray! I have not only finished my 5-man Tactical Squad, but I have also built and painted their lovely car Dedicated Transport - a Razorback! This one has been kitted out with a twin-linked Lascannon for a bit of extra 'oomph'.

I have tried to use the correct markings where possible, showing company designation and vehicle numbering.

I opted for blue for the lenses on the Lascannon turret as a contrasting spot colour. I think it stands out quite well.

Whilst the basis for the Chapter iconography is the traditional black winged blood drop, I have added a little splash of colour to the drop itself to tie it in with the detailing on the Marines.

Etc etc.

For a bit of added flexibility, I built the Razorback so that it could be retro-fitted to turn it into a Rhino. Whilst a Razorback is currently ideal, my ultimate aim is to build (if not run) ten-man squads, so they need some bigger wheels.

Here they all are, showing off their new ride.

Blood Angels: Tactical Marines

These Blood Angels were originally painted a long time ago (back in 2009, maybe?), and were some of the models that came with the Warhammer 40,000 5th Edition Boxset, Assault On Black Reach.

The original paintjob on them was fairly crude, and the colours were quite bright, and without any inking or washes, so I revisited them and gave them a bit of an overhaul.  The red became more muted (more of a crimson than a scarlet), and I adopted a bit of a De Stijl approach (red/black/white), rather than the primaries I used previously.

I think the starkness of the white works quite well against the darker colours, and helps to draw the eye a bit more.

Blood Angels Tactical
These chaps only represent a portion of a full Tactical Squad (normally 10 Space Marines), but are fairly representative of what they all look like.

I was so sick and tired of painting Red Things by the end of this squad. Keeping patience with my painting is my biggest problem, I have found: I'm a bit of a hobby butterfly, and I like to flit from one project to another.  Everything seems so new, shiny and exciting! Which, unfortunately, means that a lot of things end up being half-done for quite a long time...

Dark Angels: Brother Sergeant

Lo!  It's my Dark Angels Successor Chapter, the Adlerean Swords!  And here is my very first painted model for their force.

I opted for the same kind of bone colour as the Deathwing, because - let's face it - it's just cool.  The Deathwing were some of the first Space Marines I came across back in the early/mid Nineties, and their iconic look has stayed with me ever since.

If there are any Eastenders fans out there (I'm talking to YOU, UK-based visitors!) this guy looks a bit like Phil Mitchell, don't you think?

Blood Angels: Veteran Sergeant

This Blood Angels Veteran Sergeant was made out of the new Space Marine Tactical Squad kit, with additional components from the Death Company Kit, which is always a good source for Blood Angels bitz.  In my excitement, however, I armed him with a Grav-Pistol, which - unfortunately - Blood Angels can't have. Oh dear. As with my other Tactical Marines, I have gone for the fairly stark white-on-black effect for the angel wings that dominate the iconography.
